The Torch Program Recognizes Dedication to Continuing Education and Service

Aug 29, 2019
This voluntary and self-reported program is for elected officials who are seeking continuing education to enhance their own knowledge and skills in order to better serve the public.

Each year, officials from throughout the state earn recognition as they progress upward through three sequential levels of achievement:
  • Level I — Leadership
  • Level II — Advanced Leadership
  • Level III — Leadership in Action
Elected city officials who complete the continuing education Torch Program will be recognized by the League in a variety of ways.

A recognition ceremony will be held at the Mayors and Council Members Department meeting at the League’s Annual Conference on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. to honor the participants who have completed Levels II and III of the Torch Program. Those participants will also be awarded an Academy Graduation Certificate and lapel pin. A list of mayors and council members who have received recognition since 2003 is available on the League website.

For those interested in learning more about the program or would like to receive an application and a full list of graduation requirements, please contact Meghan McKelvey, conference program manager or visit www.cacities.org/TorchProgram.

Sept. 16 is the deadline to submit an application to be recognized during the 2019 League of California Cities Annual Conference & Expo, Oct. 16-18 in Long Beach.
