Did your city find an innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable way to improve its local transportation system? Consider nominating it for the Outstanding Local Streets and Roads Project Awards Program. The yearly program recognizes exceptional achievements made by California's cities and counties to preserve and protect the public's investment in the local street and road system.

Nominations are due online by Jan. 29 at 5:00 p.m. Applicants can nominate projects in four categories:

  • Efficient and Sustainable Road Maintenance, Construction and Reconstruction
  • Complete Streets
  • Safety or Intelligent Transportation System
  • Efficient and Sustainable Bridge Maintenance, Construction and Reconstruction

The Award Committee scores nominations on a range of criteria, including safety, innovation, replicability, sustainability, cost-effectiveness, and environmental impact. Winners will receive statewide bragging rights — good for one year — and recognition at their respective conferences. The winning city submissions are also recognized in Western City magazine.

Recent city winners include Monterey, Berkeley, Pismo Beach, Hayward, Santa Cruz, and Santa Clarita.

The award program is sponsored by the League of California Cities, California State Association of Counties, and County Engineers Association of California. For general questions, contact Merrin Gerety, County Engineers Association of California, at mgerety@counties.org or (916) 650-8118.
