Run, don’t walk to the Cal Cities Annual Conference and Expo in Sacramento

Jun 7, 2023

Register before July 26 to get $50 off your registration

Registration is open for the League of California Cities Annual Conference and Expo at the Safe Credit Union Convention Center in Sacramento. Last year, over 2,000 city officials attended the annual conference.

Scheduled for Sept. 20-22, the annual conference is an opportunity to find solutions for challenging issues, shape Cal Cities policy, and connect directly with city service providers. This year also marks Cal Cities’ 125th anniversary. Keep an eye out at the annual conference for ways to celebrate!

Educational sessions

Cal Cities received over 250 educational session proposals for this year’s annual conference. The member-driven selection committee whittled these proposals down to the most important and engaging sessions. The 2023 Annual Conference and Expo will offer over 40 educational sessions on a range of topics, including housing, pensions, natural disasters, and how to empower disadvantaged communities.

To review the current list of events and programs, visit the “schedule at a glance” section of the Annual Conference and Expo webpage. More information about this year’s sessions and speakers will be available in future editions of Cal Cities Advocate.

Policy and resolutions

Members can propose and pass new Cal Cities policies through the resolution process at the annual conference. The Resolutions Committee — comprised of representatives from each caucus, division, department, and policy committee, as well as individuals appointed by the Cal Cities President — will meet on Thursday afternoon to consider resolutions.

Resolutions approved by a policy committee and/or the Resolutions Committee are then considered by the General Assembly on Friday morning. Each member city may designate a city official as the city’s Voting Delegate at the General Assembly. If approved by the General Assembly, resolutions become Cal Cities policy.

The deadline to submit a general resolution for consideration is Saturday, July 22. Several changes have been made to the resolution process to improve the member experience and engage members, including moving the time of the General Assembly.

Information on general resolution submissions and appointing Voting Delegates will be sent directly to cities in June. More detailed information about the resolution process will also be available in future issues of Cal Cities Advocate.

Registration and hotels

Anyone who registers by July 26 can get $50 off their full conference registration. Full conference registration includes access to general and concurrent sessions, the expo, most receptions, Wednesday’s host city reception, Thursday’s lunch with exhibitors, and Friday’s closing lunch.

Before July 27, registration for all three days starts at $650 for city officials from any member city. After July 26, full conference registration for city officials is $700.

There are several hotels surrounding the convention center and a limited number of hotel rooms are available at reduced rates for registered attendees. After registering for the conference, attendees will receive a link to the discounted hotel rooms in a confirmation email. Discounted hotel rates are available until Friday, Aug. 25, or until rooms sell out — whichever comes first.

Cal Cities strives to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals to engage fully. To request reasonable accommodations, please contact Conference Registrar Megan Dunn as soon as possible.

Individuals falsely claiming to be the housing bureau/service for the 2023 Annual Conference and Expo may attempt to contact you. Cal Cities has contracted with LiveCon as the official housing service for the annual conference. Official emails regarding the conference will come from a calcities.org or live-con.com email account, as well as your hotel.
